Snack development from recipe to contract manufacturer
You have a snack idea and want to get it on the shelf. We develop the recipe, solve texture and shelf life, and connect you with the manufacturer whose line can actually run your product. Based on more than 300 development projects.

The line decides, not the idea
More than 500 manufacturers in our database produce snacks. But an operation that presses bars cannot fry chips, and an extrusion line does not bake biscuits. The question is never whether someone can make your product. The question is whose plant runs exactly your process, and from what quantity.
We develop the recipe so it works on a real line, and in parallel find the manufacturer whose process, certification and minimum quantity fit your plan. In the end you hold a specification that lets you negotiate there as an equal.
What works differently for snacks than for other products
Six points where snack projects get stuck in practice. All six can be solved early in the recipe; late, they cost months.
Texture is chemistry, not taste
Only products with the right water activity stay crunchy. A bar that is perfect in the lab sticks together in the flow pack after six weeks if the recipe does not account for it from the start.
The process determines the manufacturer
Baked, fried, extruded, cold-pressed or coated: each process is its own world of machinery. Change the process late and the manufacturer search starts over.
Fat goes rancid before the shelf life ends
Nuts, seeds and fried products oxidise. Shelf life comes from recipe, packaging and modified atmosphere together, not from a date printed on the pack.
The coating is a project of its own
Chocolate on a bar means tempering, a cooling tunnel and summer logistics. Some manufacturers have coating in-house, many do not. That helps decide the partner.
Calculate the declaration early
Nutri-Score, sugar content and claims like "source of protein" are recipe decisions. If you only calculate at the end, you will reformulate afterwards.
Minimums run in line hours
A manufacturer does not retool a line for one hour. The minimum follows from changeover time and throughput, and it differs considerably by process.
Three phases to a production-ready recipe
Fundamentals and technical concept
We sharpen the product idea, target group and positioning, clarify the regulatory guardrails and define the process: baked, extruded, pressed or fried, with target values for texture and shelf life.
Recipe development and partner search
We develop the recipe in the lab, test texture, sensory profile and water activity, and in parallel look for manufacturers whose lines can run your process and your volume.
Industrial trials, iteration and handover
The recipe runs on the plant, gets tasted and refined. The result is a specification with nutritional values and a proposed declaration a manufacturer can work with.
Example figures from our projects
Benchmarks from the beverage projects we have supported. Not a price list and not a commitment, but the orders of magnitude you can plan with.
Your category is not listed? Ask anyway. The list shows where we have experience, not where our limits are.
Minimum quantities
| Filling | from |
|---|---|
| Small batch | [to follow: benchmark] |
| Industrially scalable | [to follow: benchmark] |
The real floor depends on the process and the packaging. A bar line calculates differently from a fryer, and with printed flow packs it is often the minimum print run that sets the limit, not the line. We will tell you the number that applies to your product after the first conversation.
Duration
[to follow: benchmark] from concept to first production, assuming the project runs without major detours. Coated products and modified-atmosphere packaging extend the timeline.
Filler lead time
[to follow: benchmark]. Manufacturer lead time depends on line utilisation and differs by process. We clarify it early in the partner search, not at the end.
All figures are benchmarks from completed projects, not guaranteed values. We commit to quantities, dates and prices only once process, packaging and target volume are defined.
What a manufacturer wants to see from you
If you have everything on this list, all you need is the right operation. If half of it is missing, that is exactly our work.
Missing something? Let us talk- Compliant recipe
All ingredients with quantities, legally checked, allergens cleanly declared.
- Technical specification
Target values for water activity, texture, colour and sensory profile. What the manufacturer sets the line to.
- Nutritional values and declaration
Calculated or analysed, with a draft label and checked claims.
- Process and packaging defined
Baked, extruded or pressed, flow pack or carton, with or without modified atmosphere, with a target volume.
- Realistic minimum quantity
A batch you can finance and sell. One of the most common points where projects get stuck.
Who produces snacks in Europe and what that means for you
We maintain a database of thousands of contract manufacturers in Europe and beyond. It is our working tool for partner search, not a public directory.
500+
snack manufacturers recorded in the database
99
with organic certification, 17 with IFS
73
with documented plant-based experience
8
countries with 20 or more manufacturers
The database is continuously maintained research. Some operations also offer their own recipe work, but then develop within their own plant, suppliers and minimum quantities.
Snack manufacturers by country
| Country | Fillers |
|---|---|
| Italy | 57 |
| Germany | 53 |
| Netherlands | 40 |
| Poland | 34 |
| France | 28 |
| Spain | 28 |
| Belgium | 26 |
| Denmark | 21 |
For many processes, the right manufacturer sits elsewhere in Europe, often with different minimum quantities and different lines than comparable operations in Germany.
What our partner operations produce
The process is part of what decides which manufacturers are an option at all, and it is hard to change later.
The list shows what is documented in our database and is not exhaustive. Which process suits your product is something we clarify in conversation.
What founders ask us most often
Yes, bars are one of the most frequent requests in the category. The real work is rarely in the taste but in texture and shelf life: a high-protein bar hardens over storage time if the recipe does not counter it. Exactly these points are what we solve before the manufacturer search begins.
It depends on the process and the packaging, which is why there is no serious blanket figure. A bar line calculates in line hours, a fryer in batches, and with printed flow packs it is often the minimum print run that sets the limit. After the first conversation we will tell you the number that applies to your product.
The two belong together. We develop the recipe and connect you with the manufacturer whose line, certification and minimum quantity fit your product. We do not produce ourselves and have no plant of our own. That is precisely why we can select independently instead of steering you towards our own line.
Not a problem, but a decision point. A coating means tempering, a cooling tunnel and summer logistics, and not every manufacturer has coating in-house. We clarify early whether the coating can run at the same operation or whether a second partner joins.
An Innovation Sprint turns a strategic option into a validated product concept, with consumer research, trend analysis and a decision paper. Product development picks up from there and turns the validated concept into a product that can be produced. For snacks that means recipe, texture, shelf life and the right manufacturer.
What we are not the right partner for
We are not a manufacturer ourselves. We do not produce in our own plants; we develop the recipe and connect you with the operation that can run it. We do not rent out kitchens or production space. We do not take on pure production work without a development component. We do not offer standalone HACCP consulting or certification support. If that is what you are looking for, we are happy to point you somewhere better suited.
Tell us about your beverage
The more specific you are about where you stand, the more precisely we can answer. You will get a personal reply within two working days.
